Where is my data stored?

Your device is the vault. speak3r operates on a "privacy-by-design" philosophy: all your projects, voice fragments, text, snapshots, and branches live directly on your Apple devices and sync through your private iCloud account. Nothing is ever stored on our servers — because we don't have any.

Is my voice sent to any external server?

Never. speak3r uses Apple's Speech framework in on-device mode only. Your audio is transcribed directly on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch, and never uploaded to Apple's servers, our servers, or any third party.

Does speak3r use AI?

No. speak3r contains zero artificial intelligence, no machine learning models, and makes no calls to external AI services. It is deliberately designed as a tool — not an assistant. The value lies in the workflow, not in AI-generated content.

Can I use speak3r offline?

Yes, entirely. Recording, transcription, writing, versioning, and exporting all work fully offline. The only feature that requires an internet connection is iCloud sync, which resumes automatically when your device reconnects.

Which devices sync together?

All your Apple devices signed in with the same iCloud account: iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. A recording captured on your watch appears in the editor on your Mac moments later — no account, no setup required beyond enabling iCloud for speak3r.

How do I export my writing?

From macOS or iOS, you can export a scene, a chapter, or an entire project to Apple Pages (.pages or .rtfd format) via the share sheet. Your work stays in Apple's ecosystem and can be opened natively in Pages for final formatting.

How do snapshots and branches work?

Snapshots let you save a named version of a scene at any moment. Branches let you explore alternative directions for a scene without losing the original. Versioning is fully manual and intentional — no automatic history clutter. You can compare two snapshots or branches side by side with a visual diff.

I lost my recording — can I recover it?

If iCloud sync is enabled and your device was online at the time of recording, your fragment should appear on any of your other signed-in devices. If the recording was deleted in-app, it is removed permanently — there is no trash. We recommend keeping iCloud Backup enabled on your iPhone for full device-level protection.
