speak3r ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our application handles your information, consistent with our "privacy-by-design, zero-AI" architecture.
By using speak3r, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Data Storage & Ownership
speak3r is built using SwiftData and CloudKit. Your data lives on your devices and in your personal iCloud account — never on our servers:
- Local Storage: All projects, chapters, scenes, voice fragments, text content, snapshots, and branches are stored locally on your Apple device (iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch).
- iCloud Sync: Your data syncs across your own Apple devices through your private iCloud account via Apple's CloudKit service. This sync is governed by Apple's privacy policy. We have no access to your iCloud data.
- No Central Database: We do not operate any server, database, or backend. Your writing never leaves the Apple ecosystem.
2. Information Collection and Use
A. Voice Recordings
When you record a voice fragment, the audio file (compressed m4a/AAC format) is saved locally on your device and optionally synced to your iCloud account. Audio files are never uploaded to our servers or any third party.
B. Speech Recognition (On-Device)
speak3r uses Apple's native Speech framework (SFSpeechRecognizer) in on-device mode only. Transcription happens entirely on your device — no audio is sent to Apple's servers, our servers, or any third party for transcription.
C. Written Content
All text you write, edit, or transcribe is stored locally in SwiftData and optionally synced through your iCloud account. We never read, access, or analyze your written content.
3. Zero AI, Zero Third-Party Processing
speak3r contains no artificial intelligence, no machine learning models, and makes no calls to external AI services. We have deliberately chosen to build speak3r as a tool, not an assistant.
- No LLMs: No OpenAI, no Anthropic, no Google, no third-party AI provider is contacted at any point.
- No Cloud Transcription: Speech-to-text is handled exclusively by Apple's on-device Speech framework.
- No Analytics Services: No Firebase, no Mixpanel, no Google Analytics, no third-party SDK of any kind.
4. Network Activity
speak3r does not communicate with any external server. The only network activity is the iCloud sync handled by Apple's system frameworks, which transmits your encrypted data between your own devices via your personal iCloud account.
5. App Analytics & Tracking
speak3r collects no analytics, no crash reports, and no usage data. We do not track you. We do not know how you use the app.
6. Security
We rely on Apple's industry-standard security practices to protect your data:
- Sandboxing: The app operates within the strict iOS, macOS, and watchOS sandbox environments.
- On-Device Encryption: Data stored on your device benefits from Apple's built-in hardware encryption.
- iCloud Transit & At Rest: iCloud sync is encrypted in transit via TLS and at rest in Apple's data centers, in accordance with Apple's CloudKit security standards.
7. Data Deletion
You have full control over your data:
- In-App: Deleting a project, chapter, scene, or fragment inside the app removes it locally and from your iCloud sync on the next sync cycle.
- Uninstalling: Uninstalling speak3r from a device deletes the local copy on that device. Data in your iCloud account remains until you remove it from iCloud settings or uninstall the app from all your devices.
